Role Responsibilities

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF ROLE

This position will provide full time support to the EH&S Manager and assist in the development and implementation of the Cruzan Rum Distillery safety and environmental initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for managing data and submitting reports required under CDR/TSCA, EPCRA, and TRI/SARA.
  • Oversee RCRA Hazardous Waste management program, including hazardous waste minimization techniques and reporting.
  • Actively manage site Synthetic Minor Air permit and emissions reporting.
  • Oversee TPDES compliance, to include SWPPP and SPCC.
  • Assist EH&S Manager with overseeing environmental agency site visits and inspections.
  • Represent environmental concerns for all MOC activities including capital projects.
  • Prepare permit applications for modifications and renewals.
  • Champion environmental stewardship efforts for the site, leading conservation and sustainability efforts and ensuring that all employees are aware of facility’s environmental requirements.
  • Support EH&S Manager and EHS&S Supervisor with the coordination and execution of all environmental, health and safety trainings to include annual training and Safety Week.
  • Conduct routine EHS inspections as needed to include RCRA, SPCC, SWPPP monitoring, spill kits, and safety equipment.
  • Act as the alternate for the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, assisting in the implementation and maintenance of environmental policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 standards, support internal audits, and promote sustainable practices by engaging employees in environmental initiatives and training programs.
  • Adhere to Cruzan Rum’s Integrated Management System Policy and promote quality, environmental, health and safety as one of the organization’s business priorities.
  • Provide feedback and support to other departments to assist in improvement of compliance program development, best management practices, standard work instructions, and overall improvement to company policies and programs.
  • Drive EHS Initiatives, engagement, and programs to ensure timely completion of all deliverables.
  • Build and maintain ownership/engagement of EHS at all levels of the organization through proactive and assertive interactions with employees.  Promotes good reporting, including safety and environmental observations.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives & Projects – Support the EHS manager in all continuous improvement initiatives introduced at the facility (i.e., Lean and Behavioral Based Safety).  Create continual improvement projects when opportunities are identified.
  • Incident Management – Actively participate and conduct investigations to include root cause analysis.
  • Corrective Actions – Monitor and follow-up on actions identified by accident/incident reports, observation, inspections, and audits, providing technical knowledge & assistance as required, to properly identify and eliminate root causes. 
  • Work in partnership with HR to conduct employee investigations and other regulatory reporting, as needed 
  • Assist with management of security in absence of EHS&S Supervisor or as needed.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, Science or related field and at least 4 years proven experience in EH&S in a manufacturing environment with a focus on environmental or,
  • Associate degree in safety, Science or related field and at least 6 years proven experience in EH&S in a manufacturing environment with a focus on environmental.
  • HAZWOPER 24 hr or 40 hr a plus
  • First Aid/AED/CPR certificate a plus
  • Incident Command Systems experience a plus
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, be willing to work flexible hours, and travel 25% of the time.
  • Computer proficiency, with good knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Must be familiar with the requirements of maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Strong computer skills to include spreadsheets, databases, word processing and project software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Workday will involve activities that vary throughout the day and will be both in an office environment, as well as in a manufacturing facility.
  • Exposure to excessive heat & humidity, intermittent to constant noise, vibration, dust and slippery or uneven walking surfaces, elevated areas/high surfaces.
  • Occasional exposure to confined spaces. 
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, solvent, acids and electrical energy.
