EH&S Specialist (Environmental)

What makes this a great opportunity?
This position will provide full time support to the EH&S Manager and assist in the development and implementation of the Cruzan Rum Distillery safety and environmental initiatives.
Role Responsibilities
Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce Cruzan Rum safety policies, guidelines, and procedures to employees.
• Safety Awareness & Training – Act as the leader for safety awareness within the facility, ensuring that all employees recognize safe actions and behaviors; Construct and deliver weekly Toolbox Talks/Safety Discussions.
• Provide training to all on-site contractors and ensure adherence all Cruzan Rum Distillery Safety policies.
• Support EH&S Manager with coordinating and executing all employee safety trainings.
• Serve as the co-chair for the Safety Committee. Champion all aspects of the Environmental Health & Safety Committee, including coordinating meeting schedule, meeting minutes and safety inspections.
• Assist the EH&S manager with the coordination and execution of all safety events to include Safety Week.
• Maintain employee safety files.
• Conduct environmental, health and safety inspections as needed to include spill kit, first aid kits, and AEDs.
• Serve as the co-captain the Cruzan emergency response team.
• Serve as the alternate Environmental Management Representative and Safety Management Representative for ISO 14001/ OHSAS 45001
• Adhere to Cruzan Rum’s Integrated Management System Policy and promote quality, environmental, health and safety as one of the organization’s business priorities.
• Act as EH&S Manager in the absence of the EH&S Manager to including filling the role of safety representative when the EH&S manager is not on site or on island.
• Drive EHS Initiatives, engagement, and programs to ensure timely completion of all deliverables.
• Build and maintain ownership/engagement of EHS at all levels of the organization through proactive and assertive interactions with employees. Promotes good reporting, including safety observations and first aid.
• Continuous Improvement Initiatives & Projects – Support the EHS manager in all continuous improvement initiatives introduced at the facility (i.e., Lean and Behavioral Based Safety). Create continual improvement projects when opportunities are identified.
• Incident Management – Actively participate and conduct safety investigations to include root cause analysis
• Corrective Actions – Monitor and follow-up on actions identified by accident/incident reports, safety observations, first aid reports, safety inspections and audits, providing technical knowledge & assistance as required, to properly identify and eliminate root causes.
• Interact positively with visitors to the Cruzan Rum Distillery including visitors to the tour program, corporate visitors, and VIPs.
• Work in partnership with HR to conduct employee investigations and other regulatory reporting.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in safety, science or related field and at least 3 years proven experience in EH&S in a manufacturing environment or,
• Associates degree in safety, science or related field and at least 6 years proven experience in EH&S in a manufacturing environment.
• EMT certificate or first aid and CPR certificate
• Incident Command Systems experience a plus
• OSHA 30 Certification
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, be willing to work flexible hours, and travel 25% of the time.
• Computer proficiency, with good knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Must be familiar with the requirements of maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSA 18001 standards.
• Strong computer skills to include spreadsheets, databases, word- processing and project software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Workday will involve activities that vary throughout the day and will be both in an office environment, as well as in a manufacturing facility. • Exposure to excessive heat & humidity, intermittent to constant noise, vibration, dust and slippery or uneven walking surfaces, elevated areas/high surfaces.
• Occasional exposure to confined spaces. • Occasional exposure to chemicals, solvent, acids and electrical energy.
MOBILITY
Up to 25% travel may be required.
