PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF ROLE

The individual selected for this position must be capable of working in a distillery environment and must possess the basic skills to safely operate and maneuver a forklift for the various loading and unloading operations within and throughout the distillery.

 

Role Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and maintain the filling and storage of barrels meeting production targets.
  • Maintain equipment and materials used for barreling i.e, breaking and cleaning barrels, and barreling machinery.
  • Move controls, levers, and devices to drive industrial forklifts to transport materials between loading, unloading, processing and storage areas.
  • Safely operate the Extractor/Top fill machine as a team, to bore barrels, extract aged rum and refill barrels for rum maturation. Will also be required to transfer rum from the tank field into the extractor holding tanks.

 

  • Safely operate a forklift with a primary emphasis on moving pallets of empty and filled rum barrels.

 

  • Complete required paperwork and log to document work task specifics to include root cause analysis, near hit forms, and incident reports.

 

  • Organize and secure materials where boxes, sacks, pallets and other materials are stored.
  • Perform routine pre and post inspections on forklift equipment to ensure forklift equipment is safe to operate and is working well.
  • Manually load or unload materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms, or lifting devices.
  • Complete forklift operator training annually, provided by company.
  • Achieve target commercial production indicators and milestones.
  • Perform semi-autonomous maintenance as required.
  • Consult and work with managers, supervisors, employees, and equipment manufacturers to coordinate loading and unloading operations
  • Be a Safety Leader and be willing to mitigate hazards and report unsafe conditions.
  • Must be able to maintain confined space certification and enter confined space as needed.
  • Must have experience working with hazardous chemicals and successfully complete a HAZWOPER course.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by a supervisor or manager

 

Qualifications & Experience

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma and trade certificate with at least 2 years proven experience.
  • Forklift Operator certification
  • Current driver’s license

 

REQUIRED COMPENTENCIES AND SKILLS

  • Must be able to work on top of tanks, structures, platforms and scaffolding as needed.
  • Must be able to handle and work with hazardous materials rotating and loud machinery.
  • Must be reasonably fit; able to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods or crouch for extended periods, lift 50 pounds and climb into motion-restricted areas.
  • Must be able to work in wet and/or humid conditions, excessive heat and in inclement weather.
  • Must be trained and willing to work in conditions/environments specific to the operation including confined space, fit test, and HAZMAT.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible work hours including nights, weekends, holidays and on-call; ability to effectively work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of housekeeping standards; Strive to be 5S champion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, de-escalation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Strong ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively
  • Must have basic mathematics skills relating to counting, arithmetic and measurement; proficiency in Microsoft Office i.e. Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
