Role Responsibilities

 

  • Partner with key operational leaders to ensure that safety is integrated into all aspects of the business using continuous improvement methodologies to reduce risk.
  • Implement a comprehensive Health and Safety program that is aligned with contemporary approaches to safety focusing on engagement and developing a safety culture. 
  • Provide leadership and guidance to operational teams, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage safety risks.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of Health and Safety policies and procedures to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop and deliver practical and engaging Health and Safety training programs to employees and contractors.
  • Act as the point of contact for Health and Safety related matters, including external parties such as fire service, police, and HSE.
  • Support local management in the investigation and resolution of Health and Safety events and incidents.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including employees, contractors, and external parties.
  • Improve communication of the safety management system requirements in a way that this can be easily understood and implemented by the operational teams.
  • Coach, lead, encourage & support a dedicated and enthusiastic team of safety representatives, empowering them to become safety champions and deliver tangible safety improvements across the sites.
  • Support, review, improve & develop workplace risk assessments to effectively reduce the risk profile of our business by focusing on operational learning.
  • Use the TRACC continuous improvement methodology to drive safety culture improvement acting as the Health & Safety best practice lead.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Ideally educated to degree level, or have extensive operational experience.
  • NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
  • IOSH Membership: CertIOSH or above 
  • Years of experience: at least 3 years in a Health and Safety role preferably within a COMHA business
  • Knowledge of contemporary approaches to health and safety, including; Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles, Safety Differently, Human Factors & behavioral science.
  • Experienced in developing a proactive safety culture across a multi-site organization. 
  • Inclusive and collaborative style - able to multi-task, connecting people and act as a business partner.
  • Experience of managing regulatory and certification bodies including audits and reporting (e.g. HSE, SEPA, etc.).
  • Experience of managing people within a matrix organization
  • Tough on standards, drives a high level of discipline and exceptional influencing skills.
    • Experience of contractor management and CDM. 
    • Experience in a highly regulation production environment.
    • Familiar with systems-based thinking approaches to problem solving.
