Category Development Manager - GTR

What makes this a great opportunity?

The Category Development Manager is responsible for identifying and building long-term Category growth strategies across all key global geographies. This role will work closely with key commercial and marketing stakeholders to facilitate the adoption and embedding of the category framework that uncovers mutually beneficial growth opportunities. This will be achieved through having a keen eye for data, turning insights into action, and having a relentless approach to identifying opportunities that satisfy both the needs of the business and the customer.

A true team player, this person will be responsible for evolving our customer relationships through having a deep understanding of their strategy and the key categories that they operate within. They will also pride themselves on building best in class relationships with key internal departments including marketing, insights and commercial teams. They will establish themselves as a key component within the team, adding value everyday.        

Adopting a strategic mindset, the Category Manager will also help shape the customer strategies through the annual planning process. This will then be showcased through engaging customer presentations delivered with confidence and to a best in class standard.


Role Responsibilities


  1. Leading and executing the Category Framework for the GTR channel
    • Category lead for Global Travel Retail ensuring total adoption across the channel
    • Creation of tools, assets and templates to be executed with customers globally
    • Upskilling and coaching of key customer facing contacts across total channel
    • Significant contributor to the customer planning process to ensure that category has fair representation
    • Involvement in key customer meetings


  1. Data Mining & Analysis
    • GTR lead for category analysis and data mining to generate insights, product planograms and new category growth opportunities
    • IWSR category data and Mindset Shopper data expert for the channel amongst other sources
    • Partnering with insights to generate category and shopper insights that uncover growth opportunities


  1. Effective Partnering to create a high performing Category led GTR team
    • Effective stakeholder partnering with both Brand Marketing, Marketing Services and Commercial teams to ensure one joined up category strategy
    • Best in Class collaboration with International Category team
    • Leader of regular Category framework updates and roll out across total channel through engaging and compelling presentation


  1. Creating an insight led, category growth mindset across the channel  
    • True understanding of shopper behavior and category performance to create an insight led culture
    • Source of category data and information to help support total channel


  1. Leadership & Adoption
    • Creating a category and insight led culture to ensure adoption of framework across the channel
    • Ensure a category and shopper centric approach in all planning and execution
    • Represent the business with key retailer partners in key meetings to drive engagement to BSI shopper programs through joint growth opportunities

  • University degree- BS/BA or equivalent
  • Team player who thrives in a high-performing, diverse and inclusive team
  • Prior senior experience in Category Development / Insight Management roles
  • Superior Analytical and Presenting skills
  • Category Management & Passion for turning insight into action
  • Sound P&L management and ROI understanding
  • Outstanding stakeholder management capabilities
  • Demonstrated experience managing and growing categories
  • Digital & eCommerce experience
