The Asset Care and Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing asset care and maintenance activities across various sites, including distillation sites, VC’s, maturation, maltings, and other relevant business estates/sites. This role is crucial for ensuring legislative and safety compliance for all assets and engineering systems.

  • This role is responsible for the management of asset care and maintenance activities across the distillation sites. This also includes VC’s, maturation, maltings and any other business estates / sites where relevant.
  • Delivery of the maintenance strategy, ensuring legislative & safety compliance for all assets and engineering systems.
  • Lead the maintenance technicians, ensuring successful development and utilisation of resource.
  • Support the operational and brand house sites for all asset care and maintenance activities.
  • Support strategic CAPEX projects and lead localised Capex projects as/when required.

Role Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for all EH&S activities associated with asset care for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Lead the localised maintenance team and be main point of contact for all engineering and maintenance activities across assigned areas / sites.
  • Lead the localised maintenance strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall maintenance processes and ways of working. Focus applied to continuous improvement methodologies, utilising data / KPI’s to drive improvement.
  • Lead the maintenance planning activities for assigned areas, ensuring utilisation and effectiveness from available resources.
  • Lead and participate (if necessary) in a formal on-call rota, providing emergency cover and response to assigned areas / sites.
  • Maintain a maintenance “hands-on” approach to the engineering systems as/when necessary, in order to provide out of hours or engineering backfill cover.
  • Manage the R&M budgets to target for area of responsibility, ensure monthly / annual forecasting and accountability for such.
  • Manage the development of the maintenance team members, ensuring suitable training and competence in in place for all associated tasks and duties.
  • Assume lead for contractor control for area of responsibility, ensuring all necessary control documents and systems are in place and adhered to.
  • Ensure adherence and alignment with all CMMS requirements for area of responsibility, inclusive of engagement with operational teams.
  • Manage SAP systems for all engineering procurement activities, ensuring compliance with R&M budget.
  • Attend necessary departmental meetings, contributing and fully representing the function.
  • Develop, lead and coordinate the shutdown works across the distillation sites, ensuring alignment with operational teams.
  • Maintain on-going career, through self-awareness, coaching and training. Identifying necessary opportunities and gaps to support this.

Qualifications

  • HNC in Electrical/mechanical Engineering or Multi-Disciplinary Engineering.
  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Experience within the Scotch Whisky Industry or a similar FMCG environment (ideally)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to use Word, Excel, and Power point.
  • Maintenance techniques and processes (TRACC / AMIS)
  • Sound knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Possess a valid / clean driver's license, for driving to remote plants.
  • Ability to work across multiple locations and geographies to support the operation
  • Ability to develop skill set and undertake necessary training as/when required.

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge and awareness of EH&S regulations associates with distillation process, ideally holding a recognized H&S qualification.
  • To have served a recognized apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical (or equivalent) discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience across the distillation process and associated equipment / systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislative responsibilities associated with maintenance activities across hazardous areas and distillation sites.
  • Sound knowledge of ATEX / DSEAR regulations and requirements across hazardous areas (spirits) processes.
  • Accreditation in (or ability to gain) COMPEX 14 – responsible persons.
  • Experience in first level team management, ideally in an engineering environment.
  • Experience of CAPEX project delivery and/or support of complex CAPEX projects.
  • Experience of TRACC / AMIS maintenance processes and techniques, with ability to implement processes which align with this.
  • Strong team player, with the ability to lead and develop teams. Able to build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the operational teams.
