Beam Suntory currently has the following position open in Frankfort Kentucky, United States.


Controls Engineering Technician  




Contributes to the success of Frankfort plant operations by working with the maintenance and engineering teams to troubleshoot various competencies such as advanced pneumatic, basic hydraulic, AC/DC electrical systems, automation (PLC and instrumentation), and mechanical systems in all areas, across the Frankfort facilities, with minimal guidance.  This technician will assist controls/electrical engineers on minor capex projects and will be the first line of defense for maintenance supervisors and specialists. Additional duties will include development and auditing of predictive maintenance plans.




  • Be the first line of defense between maintenance specialists/supervisors and the controls and electrical engineers:
    • Areas of responsibility include all bottling & packaging equipment, case palletizing, liquid handling, and plant infrastructure equipment – Including but not limited to bottle handling & case handling equipment, liquid processing equipment, plant steam boilers, vacuum system, air compressors, processed water and hot water production, bulk processing transfer & transportation systems, and all other bottling support equipment.
    • Works with maintenance planner and supervisors to coordinate & plan maintenance activities including emergency non-routine breakdowns as well as scheduled routine/cyclical PMs.
    • Provides all necessary permits for safe work (hot work, confined space)
  • Responsible for on-site PdM program execution.
    • Coordinates and preforms predictive maintenance routines throughout the site
    • Works with maintenance planner to ensure findings of PdM activities are corrected in a timely manner
    • Works with engineering, maintenance and operations to generate PdM tasks and routes.
    • Stays up to date with new and improving PdM technolodgies
    • Willing to travel for training opportunities.
    • Manage and supervise ongoing PM and PdM related contracted services across all Frankfort sites.  This includes coordination with internal Beam Suntory personnel where applicable.
    • Areas include but are not limited to bottling and/or processing and facilities areas.
    • Ensures all contractors are current on safety training
  • Assist in the creation of TPM plans
  • Works with storeroom supervisor and department supervisors to determine critical spares needed for associated equipment
  • Coordinates with the maintenance manager to ensure adequate adherence to the budget
  • Uses SAP to prepare Purchase Requisitions for necessary indirect materials
  • Works with operations, engineering and maintenance team members to develop standard operating procedures for maintenance related tasks
  • Regularly audits PMs to ensure adequate capacity planning and training.
  • Assists in management of small CAPEX projects for the engineering team
  • Provides coverage relief to Maintenance Supervisor, Reliability Engineer & Maintenance Planner as needed
  • Ability to work in a team environment with strong communication skills while focused on customer service.
  • Must observe and practice all Department/Plant Procedures including wearing required PPE
  • Adherence to plant safety, food Safety, sanitation standards, and following all GMP guidelines.

Desired Qualifications




  • Required Associates degree in a technical field
  • Preferred 10+ years’ experience with PLC controls
  • Knowledge in maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation (flow meters, pressure transducers, control valves and other analog devices)
  • Basic working knowledge of low voltage (<480Volts)
  • Computer literate – preference to SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Strong technical knowledge in maintenance crafts, possesses mechanical inclination, understanding tools, various equipment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Union environment exposure
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills
  • Vibration/Thermal imaging certification
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance certificate/training
  • TPM experience

    ** Compliance with standard operating procedures, legal and other requirements including health and safety, fire protection, environmental, quality, security and continuous improvement programs is a requirement of the job.



  • Minimum Required-Associates degree in a technical field
