The following position is open in Clermont, KY - Operational Excellence Lead - North America


What makes this a great opportunity?

This position reports into the Director of Global Operational Excellence and is instrumental to the company’s current and future success. The North American Operating Units (OUs) include a wide range of distilleries and packaging plants producing Bourbon in Kentucky, Vodka in Alberta, Canada, Rum in St. Croix, Tequila in Sauza, Mexico and our largest facility in Frankfort, Kentucky where multiple brands are bottled.


The business now wishes to attract an Operational Excellence Lead – North America, to help bring a consistent approach to operational excellence across the BSI business, in order to deliver the strategic ambition of the Brand Houses. The role will be critical in providing Operational Excellence governance to the North American OUs, for the Director of Global Operational Excellence.  This position should expect to have occasional exposure to the global Supply Chain Leadership Team (SCLT) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT).


Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the health, depth and breadth of the Operational Excellence program for the North American region.  (Kentucky, Canada, St. Croix and Mexico)
  • Drive TRACC assessment and development planning for North American OUs
  • Provide a strategic viewpoint for the Global Director of Operational Excellence on Problem Solving, Six Sigma and Profit Improvement Project programs.
  • Develop a broader understanding and ability to facilitate, TRACC, TPM and the Best Practices within these programs.
  • Assure adherence to TRACC and other standards for the site, including a disciplined Proof of Evidence process.
  • Partner with North American OU leaders to ensure the optimum organizational design is implemented for Operational Excellence locally, advising on specific consulting requirements where needed.
  • Build networking events and kaizen forums to celebrate success. Create and manage an interface with Suntory Japan for Continuous Improvement Best Practices.
  • Embed a culture of ‘can-do’ mindset – not accepting historical approaches or established ways of working. Be a catalyst for change.
  • Build network relationships and bridges based on respect and trust. 
  • Support and nurture high levels of employee engagement.
  • Champion a culture of transparent reporting and decision-making. 
  • Comply with all legal requirements and ethical standards relating to the management of people, assets, suppliers and third parties.


Qualifications & Experience

EducationBachelor’s Degree Required; Engineering or technical degree, or similar preferred.


Certifications/Licensure – 6σ Black Belt, LEAN (preferably TRACC), TPM


Years of experience – 5 years in operational roles with increasing responsibility.


Level and type of experience:


  1. Experienced and certified in 6 Sigma (DMAIC, Kaizen)
  2. Experienced in ‘Operational Excellence’ programs (Lean, TPM) and implemented a pillar framework in a multi-site environment.
  3. Inclusive and collaborative style - able to work in matrix organizations, connecting people and best-practices. Tough on standards and execution discipline.


Industry experience- Prefer a background in a World Class company (Pharma, FMCG, automotive) and have demonstrated cultural sensitivity/EQ in different contexts.


Travel % - 30%, based in Kentucky. Travel will be required to each of the sites within Kentucky as well as occasional travel Regionally and Internationally as needed.
