Role Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team (“Project Management Office” or “Center of Excellence”) in executing sustainability program initiatives, working closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure alignment.
  • Develop and present program budgets, creating sound business cases for any investments, and doing due diligence on requirements for any implementation where necessary.
  • Manage overall program execution, in partnership with established task forces, and cross-functional leads from Design, Production, Merchandising, and Creative/Marketing.
  • Measure and report on goals and metrics, revising targets and objectives where necessary and monitoring progress.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Sustainability and ESG reporting for the enterprise for the BSI Nature Pillar: water, CO2, farm, field, and packaging.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders and partners in ESG, Corporate Governance, Corporate Responsibility, and other key teams, lead the creation of a global ESG disclosure strategy, specifically focused on evaluating global ESG ratings, rankings, disclosure frameworks and content aggregator tools, for the purpose of building a holistic, inclusive strategy for ESG content gathering and disclosure.
  • Serve as project manager for the development of the annual corporate responsibility report (Nature Pillar Section), working closely with subject matter experts across the enterprise.
  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide plan for collecting, storing, validating and distributing Sustainability & ESG data and content for reporting and responding to requests from key stakeholders.
  • Partner with relevant functions and teams to establish process, rhythm and communication methods for data and content coordination, as well as for other key projects and programs.
  • Create and manage data and content tracking systems as needed to support reporting, requests and audits.
  • Complete internal reports on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis as well as required external reporting (CDP, UN Global Compact, Walmart, Tesco, BSCI, etc.). Respond to key ESG surveys, inquiries, and rating agencies (MSCI, ISS, Sustain analytics, Bloomberg, etc.).
  • Work consistently and effectively with stakeholders across the enterprise, including Supply Chain, R&D, Brand House/Commercial, Finance, Legal, IT, HR, Diversity & Inclusion, Communications and others on Sustainability & ESG strategy, projects, and actions.
  • Coordinate & support environmental & sustainability communications with Corporate Communications.
  • Develop and mentor teams by setting clear objectives, measuring KPIs, and providing ongoing feedback and coaching.
  • Engage directly with a variety of stakeholders, including third-party auditors, on increasing expectations and trends for material data disclosure, data tracking, reporting, and transparency.
  • Maintain awareness of global Sustainability & ESG trends and tools, metrics and KPIs, and share updates and implications with broader Sustainability & ESG team and beyond.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field required. Advanced degree in a business, finance, data science, sustainability, marketing or related program preferred.
  • Ability to complete Lean/Six Sigma certification within six months of hire.
  • A minimum of 10 years corporate or manufacturing experience organizing/coordinating multiple projects in a sustainability project management role required.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive industry experience with Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon calculations, reduction roadmaps, and internal and external reporting required.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive industry experience with water conservation, reduction roadmaps, water reuse and replenishment programs, and internal and external reporting required.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive industry experience with sustainable farming and forestry programs and internal and external reporting preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive industry experience with sustainable packaging programs and recycling/reuse programs, and internal and external reporting preferred.
  • Must be fluent in English; second language is a plus, but not required. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written, and explain technical concepts or innovations to technical and non-technical employees.
  • Advanced computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel, online meeting software, web-based KPI reporting software) and expert PowerPoint presentation development and delivery.
  • Familiarity with Sustainability issues and trends, and a working knowledge of leading ESG frameworks (SASB, TCFD, CDP, etc.) and ESG rating organizations ranking schemes.
  • External sustainability reporting experience, with a successful track record of helping to build strategies and improve scores/rankings.
  • Experience with CDP or climate change reporting and materiality analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to adapt to different formats (press releases, annual reports, website, etc.).
  • Comfortable working in a new department amidst ambiguity and transformational change.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports. 
  • Physical requirements: ability to conduct visits and “gemba” activities throughout the manufacturing site- on-grade, below-grade and above-grade working surfaces.
  • All applicants must have legal authorization to work in the country in which the manufacturing site is located. The candidate must be able to travel to (and throughout) countries in which BSI has manufacturing locations (travel <25%).
