The following position is open in Chicago, Illinois - eCommerce Category Manager

  • The eCommerce Category Manager will be responsible for developing and executing analytical tools and approaches in this dynamic emerging channel. 
  • This is a fast paced and entrepreneurial role where opportunity exists for a candidate to make a substantial contribution to multiple internal & external teams.
  • The role is inclusive of harnessing and analyzing eCommerce data from retailers, distributors and other third parties to identify category management approaches that drive site visits, engagement, conversion, and basket sales in primarily online environments, but understands the omnichannel impact as well. 
  • Develop a strong skillset as a business partner, providing key decision support analysis and exercising influence over business decisions with our customers and partners.  The ideal candidate will be well-versed in traditional category management principles and approaches with a proven track record of forward-looking thought leadership in new situations and environments. 
  •  This person should be a self-starter who can work independently while engaging in cross-functional collaboration to support broader objectives through good communication, organizational skills and influential leadership. 

 

 

Role Responsibilities

 

  • Support success with our customers and partners by helping to drive our category management initiatives and commercial strategies, boosting understanding of the eCommerce channel through the creation of an eCommerce Management toolkit
  • Conduct category assortment, promotional, cross-selling, and other relevant analyses for eCommerce and omnichannel retailers, leveraging all relevant information.
  • Identify and codify new analyses relevant to driving eCommerce traffic, conversion, and basket size; Integrate online and offline data into actionable insights to maximize performance in omnichannel environments.
  • Support all relevant data organization and data mining of new and existing data sources.
  • Suppor the development of storylines and presentations to effectively communicate findings both internally as well as externally to retailers, distributors and other stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams and relevant data vendors to identify and obtain relevant data and tools for eCommerce channel insights and tracking.
  • Deliver category management reporting, trend analysis, customized reports and support special project work to the key account teams.
  • Develop eCommerce dashboards and reporting for a cross-functional leadership audience; track key performance metrics for eCommerce performance.
  • Liaise with Finance and IT to track eCommerce Financial Performance where we have ability to separate eCommerce specific channel sales; perform reporting updates to leadership for sales performance & trend analyses.
  • Support eCommerce-led Shopper Insights studies, summarize actionable outputs, & socialize to internal/external stakeholders (e.g. sales teams & retailers).
  • Own & optimize digital shelf intelligence tool and vendor relationship; collaborate with eCommerce Content Manager to ensure Content Compliance needs are covered in scope of tool’s outputs.

 

 

 

 

Stakeholder Management:

  • Interface with National Accounts, Local Sales, Category Management, eCommerce, Commercial and Local Marketing, Consumer and Shopper Insights and Marketing Technology teams, among others.  Foster open communication to share learnings and drive execution
  • Liaise with eCommerce and Sales teams to ensure consistent communication with key retailer stakeholders; build relationships with relevant external parties to support broader objectives
  • Serve as thought leader within Beam Suntory and vis-à-vis retailers regarding new / emerging data sources, tools and approaches for leveraging digital platforms and optimizing eCommerce performance
  • Be a key member of the eCommerce team, serving as a champion for this channel within the organization

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) required
  • 3+ years of category management experience within consumer-packaged goods or retail.  Experience with working to optimize a suppliers’ performance within a retailers’ digital shelf or website is preferred
  • Analytical skills to identify opportunities and tell a story internally and externally
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to influence and collaborate across functions
  • Proven track record of forward-looking thought leadership and ability to adapt in fast-paced, changing environments
  • Action-oriented self-starter with an “ownership” mindset
  • Extensive, demonstrable skills within Microsoft Office, working with syndicated data sources (Nielsen, IRI) and Digital Category Management tools (e.g. Numerator)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong sales acumen
  • Experience in digital / eCommerce or beverage alcohol ideal, but not required
