This role will allow yo to expand your horizons as you interface with the multitude of other EHS professionals within the Beam Suntory global team.  This network will assist the succesful candidate in building world class EHS at our facility in Calgary.

 

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Plant General Manager, your strong leadership skills, safety, and ISO standards experience will play a key role in ensuring that our goals and objectives are met.  The incumbent will be committed to the pursuit of best practices beyond compliance, driving EHS ownership to the shop floor and continual improvements through KPI measurement. Tasks are completed with the understanding that safety is the responsibility of everyone in ADL and the direct responsibility of supervisors and managers. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Proactive approach to workplace and employee EHS programs, including planning, budgeting, documenting, implementing, and maintaining.
  • Positive / self-motivated and fully engaged as a key member of a multi-disciplinary management team; takes hands-on accountability for their work and the success of the plant.
  • Continual improvement of management systems including procedure development and maintenance, compliance, training, and internal audit participation as it applies to ISO, Rail Safety and COR.
  • Ensuring all safety incidents and significant near misses are reviewed and followed up.
  • Through the facility Lean Manufacturing processes participate in incident reporting, root cause analysis, corrective action follow-up and continual process improvement.
  • Record and track KPI objectives as they apply to EH&S.
  • Work collaboratively with management and employees to build a strong safety culture.
  • Complete / facilitate the annual environmental reporting as required by:
    • The facility EPEA approval for air, waste, soil, ground water monitoring, and surface water run-off.
    • AEP regulations, ADM5 and AEIR.
    • Federal NPRI and GHG reporting.
    • Alberta Carbon Tax TEIR reporting and verification.
  • Coordinate and track the disposal of all wastes including any hazardous waste and plant site recycling. Access and implement waste reduction initiatives.
  • Lead the SWAT analysis process and create annual goals and objectives as they apply to EHS.
  • Assist with management and orientation of third-party contractors utilizing a registry contractor management program. Coordinate and conduct onsite reviews with contract service providers.
  • Emergency Response training, drills, and support during plant site emergencies. On call work may be required.
  • Act as the Employer Co-Chair in the plant Joint Worksite Health and Safety Committee (JWHSC)
  • Ensure compliance with the facility EPEA approval, City of Calgary bylaws, AB provincial regulations, federal environmental regulations, and internal company policies.
  • Assist with the facilitation and management of WCB claims and return to work programs in conjunction with HR and supervisory team.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide leadership for the site EHS Coordinator.
  • Maintain personal safety and auditing training courses as required.  Assist with orientation and training for all levels of the organization for safety related programs.
  • Lead the site security process, including site guarding contract, security cameras and budgets.

 

Qualifications & Experience

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Health or bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Environmental Management.
  • CSRP required or in process of obtaining.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years leadership experience in a unionized manufacturing or production environment.
  • Management systems experience (ISO 45001, 14001, 9001, COR, Rail Safety).
  • Working knowledge of AB OH&S, AB Environment, EPEA, TDG, and CSA standards.
  • Broad based computer knowledge with demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to make timely, critical decisions and manage emergency situations
  • Strong work ethic, high level of enthusiasm and ability to excel in a flexible, fast paced environment
  • Must have physical mobility to access all areas of the Plant.

 

 

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & QUALITIFCATIONS:

  • Lean manufacturing, TRACC and 5S experience.
  • Fall protection, confined space entry and rescue, standard first aid, respiratory protection, SCBAs, WCB/disability management training.
